I’ve been thinking about exchange rates since last Sunday.
In my few travels abroad – I learned to estimate the exchange rate. For example … in Greece, I knew that one American dollar didn’t go as far there as it did at home. It took about $4 to equal 3 euros. While I enjoy mathematics, I don’t really understand economics. I don’t understand why the dollar didn’t go as far.
In my spiritual journey I am grateful for God’s economy. I don’t understand it … but I realize it works in my favor. Through Isaiah God explained his exchange rate … and Crystal Lewis put those words in worship song … He gives beauty for ashes, strength for fear, gladness for mourning and peace for despair.
Sarah Young, devotional author, wrote it this way …
I am your best friend, as well as your King. Walk hand in hand with Me through your life. Together we will face whatever each day brings: pleasures, hardships, adventures, disappointments. Nothing is wasted when it is shared with Me. I can bring beauty out of the ashes of lost dreams. I can glean Joy out of sorrow, Peace out of adversity. Only a Friend who is also the King of kings could accomplish this divine alchemy. There is no other like Me!
I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness. Isaiah 61:10
