Connecting life, scripture, and poetry

the truth’s superb surprise

Beth Ferguson, January 16, 2009

Tell all the Truth but tell it slant—
Success in Circuit lies
Too bright for our infirm Delight
The Truth’s superb surprise

As Lightening to the children eased
With explanation kind
The Truth must dazzle gradually
Or everyman be blind-

~E Dickinson

God as creator
            pensive, excited,
                                       inventive …

An artist, brush on pallete, seeking
           the perfect shade …

A composer, finger on keyboard,
listening for the exact chord …

A poet, pen poised on paper,
         awaiting the precise word …

The Creator, the master weaver,
         threading together the soul

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.  He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.  He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Created, known, loved, rescued … given gifts of grace, peace, rest, strength, power …  the truth’s superb surprise …
