Connecting life, scripture, and poetry

nothing is so beautiful as spring

Beth Ferguson, March 7, 2009January 15, 2021

The birds are flitting from feeder to feeder this morning … their chirping bringing smiles!  Spring is such a heavenly reminder of our new life in Christ.

Nothing is so beautiful as spring —
When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;
Thrush’s eggs look little low heavens, and thrush
Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring
The ear, it strikes like lightnings to hear him sing;
The glassy peartree leaves and blooms, they brush
The descending blue; that blue is all in a rush
With richness; the racing lambs too have fair their fling.
~G. M. Hopkins

I love that the poet found beauty even in the weeds  … <smile>

The soft colors of spring combined with the welcome notes of the birds are shouting … his mercies are new every morning!
