Grateful for Choices!

This is not a political post! But today is Election Day … and surely by now you have voted! Today is a good day to be grateful for choices!

One science report I read said that adults make on average 35,000 decisions a day … some 200+ decisions about food a day (LOL!). Obviously not all of the decisions we made are consequential, but who knows which decision may change the trajectory of our lives!!??

Even with decision fatigue, I’m grateful for the opportunity to make choices.

A couple of decisions stand out … one a good while ago … and the other relatively recent:

  • I said “YES!” when Ron asked me to marry him in November of 1973!
  • We decided together to move to Cedar Park in 2012 to be near our sons and grandsons; what a joy it is to be a part of their lives!

But there is so much more to choices … I get to choose daily…

  • to say “yes” as often as possible to the twins who live with us
  • to love/serve my family well
  • to reach out to friends using social media
  • to look on the bright side

And I want to choose these more often …

  • think more
  • create more
  • And always to love more!

One bit of scripture comes to mind when thinking about choices from Joshua 24 (NET) – “Now obey the Lord and worship him with integrity and loyalty. Put aside the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates and in Egypt, and worship the Lord. If you have no desire to worship the Lord, then choose today whom you will worship, whether it be the gods whom your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But I and my family will worship the Lord.” This is a choice … maybe “the” choice for today!

By the way, if making decisions is difficult for you or you just long for clarity and peace in the process, I can recommend Emily P Freeman’s book, The Next Right Thing! Her gentle, soulful instruction may be just the encouragement you need!
