Have you had an “epiphany?”
The dictionary says epiphany means “a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initated by some simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence, or experience.”
January 6 is known as the twelfth day of Christmas … or Epiphany. It’s the celebration of the birth of Christ made known to the magi … gentiles. The wise men were scholars … knew significance attached to the star … and were willing to make an adventurous journey to meet the new born king … the king of kings. They brought him gifts … the gifts of themselves, and their treasures.
Bright Morning Star,
your light has come,
and the birth of Jesus
has overwhelmed us with joy.
Like the magi of long ago,
may we be drawn to you
and offer you such gifts as we are able.
(from the Revised Common Lectionary)
Epiphany … insight for my own journey … a willingness to follow the Light. I have no special gifts to bring … like the “little drummer boy” I’ll play my best for Him.
May it be so, Lord.
