Distracted … by love
I’m reflecting on the pastor’s challenge today. Do I really love God? Is my love for God compartmentalized … appropriate here but not there? Is my love obvious only when the outcomes of my life match my personal desires?
In Deuteronomy, Moses writes, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” Our response should mirror the love that God has lavished on us!
The word “love” in our English language is used for so many types of affection … I love chocolate; I love that TV show; I love my grandsons; I love a slow Saturday morning; I love my husband. Hopefully the word “love” doesn’t have the same meaning in each of those phrases! I say I love God … do my actions confirm my love for Him? Or is my love for so many common graces overshadowing that love?
Which brings me to the question … Will I or do I love God no matter the outcomes? Will I be disappointed if His will doesn’t match the outcomes I have in mind? Or will I gratefully accept the outcomes He chooses for me? Hudson Taylor, the great missionary to China, is quoted as saying, “He gives the very best to those who leave the choice to him.”
Deep in thought today … distracted even … desiring to be totally distracted by His love!
