Connecting life, scripture, and poetry

cushioned rest

Beth Ferguson, January 5, 2011

“The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings.”  ~~ Eric Hoffer

There is a bit of morning tension today … I choose to lay it aside … my desire is to wake up grateful … with thanksgiving in my heart and on my lips!

I am thankful today for 10 extra minutes … those 10 minutes where I snuggled back under the covers, relishing the warmth, the comfort, the relaxation of early morning hours.  I am not an early riser by nature – so taking a few extra minutes feels good.  I’m thankful for the blanket, the bed … I know many sleep on uncomfortable surfaces – I am grateful for cushioned rest.

As I ponder for just a minute about thanksgiving, I’m grateful for this day.  I have only this time to be me … to be fully human … to live in my current circumstances in a way that glorifies my Lord.  This is the day I have to live by faith, to experience the fullness of God.
Now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
I’m thankful today for cushioned rest, for minutes, time, this day, and for the opportunities it brings.
Thank you, Lord.
