This past week, I was thinking about David and Goliath. I was reminded of the 10 spies who saw giants in the promised land … they said “we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” Sometimes we allow the giants in our lives to doubt our rightful standing in God’s eyes.
Warring Philistines, gathering forces on the hill
Goliath, their vocal giant, flaunting his prowess
Armies of Israel, dismayed, fearful, cowering
Soldiers, backing up from the words of the enemy
But the boy, the boy believed in the almighty God
Knew his God by His name, by faith and experience
Knew the giant would not be silenced by might alone
The boy put off human armor, put on God’s armor …
Five humble stones, yes, but weighty boulders in the hands of God
A simple sling, yes, but a trebuchet in the hands of God
Boyish confidence, yes, but victory in the hands of God
Who is your giant? In what God do you trust?
God, Creator and Redeemer, the Lord is his name
By your faith and his hands your victory is secured!

For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just
and protects those who are faithful to him. ~ Proverbs 2:6-8
