Connecting life, scripture, and poetry

life and rest

Beth Ferguson, April 29, 2009

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;  for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. ~ Hebrews 4:9-10

We’ve been working on our patio … and I’ve been eager to get home each day to rest, rock, and read on the patio.  What a blessing!  The creek gurgles, the birds bathe and then  flit from branch to branch, the breeze ruffles the skin … springtime shouts the glory of God.

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday;this is the birth
day of life and love and wings:and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any-lifted from the no
of all nothing-human merely being
doubt unimaginably You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)
~ e e cummings

Springtime, beauty … rest … thank you!

Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!
