Connecting life, scripture, and poetry

humming melodies of the divine

Beth Ferguson, February 24, 2009

We slipped away to the seaside for a couple of days … to celebrate life and to find a bit of quiet, rest … time spent together and with our Lord.

Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.  He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.  They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.  Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love  and his wonderful deeds for men. ~Psalm 107:28-31

Walks by the sea, exploring the edges of the tide, picking up the broken shells, capturing the beauty in sun, sea, surf … pure delight!  Our God is a faithful God!

The repetitive sounds of the sea
Soothing, mesmerizing
Engaging the spirit
Humming melodies of the divine
Rich, harmonious praises
Beckoning, “Draw near”

The reflecting pool, an emerald sea
Mirroring recesses of the soul
Searing sunshine, purifying
Centering the inner self
Accepting the age-old invitation
“I will give you rest.”
