With one sacrifice [offering] he made perfect forever those who are being made holy [sanctified; set apart to God].
Hebrews 10:14 EXB
At Christmas, we focus on the infant, the precious baby. But that first coming was the beginning of the end, an offering, sacrificial, complete. Advent is the anticipation of completion, the fulfillment of time, the glorious resting place described by Isaiah. This is the “big” picture of time, the beginning and end known only to God.
In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples;
Isaiah 11:10 NIV
the nations will rally to him,
and his resting place will be glorious.
Jesus left heaven, emptied Himself, took the form of a servant, was born in our likeness – human! His purpose – so that with one offering, the sacrifice of His life, He could make perfect forever those who are being made holy. US! He left heaven for us.
Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children
Ephesians 5:1-2 NIV
and walk in the way of love,
just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us
as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Our response, then, should be following His example – walking in the way of love! Offering ourselves in worship and service to our King!
We bring an offering of worship to our King
Paul Baloche
No one on earth deserves the praises that we sing
Jesus, may you receive the honor that you’re due
O Lord, [we] bring an offering to you
Father, thank you for offering yourself freely on our behalf. Your offering was extravagant, costly, an amazing gift of grace. Help us to ascribe to You the glory due Your Name! Teach us how to worship you in the splendor of Your holiness. May we learn to follow you, walking in the way of your love. Amen.
