Connecting life, scripture, and poetry

dissolve my heart in thankfulness

Beth Ferguson, November 1, 2012November 12, 2020

Earlier this week I was talking with a colleague at school.  We needed to vent a little bit … just a little bit … and we ended our conversation with things we were grateful for!  We decided we would challenge each other to keep a focus on gratitude!  So here goes thirty days of thankfulness!

I thought myself a grateful soul,
Until deep testing took its toll,
And gratitude became a chore,
With less I dared be thankful for.

But then I learned it’s Him alone,
Not circumstance or what I own,
For Whom I find the thankfulness,
That honors Him and He can bless.

There is a phrase in an old Isaac Watts’ hymn that says, “dissolve my heart in thankfulness” … may it be so.
