The rain is falling … the creek is rising. Our yard is saturated with water. There is a flood warning.
I’m reminded of the water cycle … water evaporates … condenses … forms clouds … falls to the earth again as rain/snow … and starts all over again. As the earth is saturated in the springtime, roots are watered, life is re-awakened, plants blossom.
Isaiah also describes the water cycle … “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry.” But note that Isaiah doesn’t stop there … he likens the water cycle to the power of the word of God in our world.
“It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands!” ~Isaiah 55:11-12
As the rain falls on our earth tonight so the word of God goes forth … watering deeply the roots, re-awakening life, and causing peace and joy to blossom.
You heavens above, rain down righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness grow with it ~ Isaiah 45:8
Tonight with each rain drop, with each clap of thunder … may salvation spring up!
Hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me …
