charged with the grandeur of God

Today has been a special day … a surprising treat … a “re”treat of sorts since the hint of ice and snow allowed us to be home from school.  It’s been a day of work … catching up on paperwork … from which I am very easily distracted in the best of settings.  It’s also been a day to watch the rain, snow, ice, clouds pass by the windows … all the while snuggled up warm & cozy in my favorite spot.

I ran across this poem today … entitled “God’s Grandeur” … and it’s true … All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres … This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought!!   I can rest … because this is my Father’s world … oh how I need to be reminded that I can live out my life as his child … in the joy, freedom, and innocence of a child …

THE WORLD is charged with the grandeur of God…
And for all this, nature is never spent;
      There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
      Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs–
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
      World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

I love that imagery at the end … the quiet and continuing work of the Holy Spirit in our world … the guarantee of full redemption … he nevers leaves us nor forsakes us.

This is my Father’s world: He shines in all that’s fair …
He speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Father’s world. O let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.

This is my Father’s world: the battle is not done:
Jesus Who died shall be satisfied,
And earth and Heav’n be one.
