Hoping, Thinking, Reflecting February Edition

Beth Ferguson, February 1, 2026February 1, 2026

Looking out my window

We had an ice storm last weekend. And next weekend it will be in the 70s.
Up, down, all around!

I am thinking

About discipleship – what it looks like in the ordinary bits of our days;
What a personal curriculum might look like in this season–
If that is even feasible with the list of “to-dos” already on the docket.
I’m thinking about this quote: “God is not looking for people who will do his work for him, but for those who will carry his presence, participating with him”
(from Becoming God’s Family, p. 26)

I am thankful

I’m grateful for all things warm today –
A mug of hot tea warming my hands
Fresh laundry straight from the dryer
My husband’s hands caressing my face
A hot shower relaxing my shoulders
And a kind word that lingers!

One of my favorite things

Turning on the electric blanket a few minutes before bed to warm up the sheets!

I am creating

I enjoy writing and drawing.
I had a piece published recently – Fruitful to the End

I am listening to

A playlist related to our Women’s Development Bible Study on Proverbs.

I am wearing

Today I wore a favorite orange silk scarf that I bought when visiting Shanghai, China.

I am reading

Our community group is reading through the New Testament in a semester.
We’ve read Matthew and Mark, and are finishing up Luke this week.
I’m also reading Carmen Joy Imes’ book, Belonging to God’s Family: Why the church still matters.

I am hoping

We have a beach retreat coming up – I am hoping to spend some time soaking up the sea air and contemplating life as the sea ebbs and flows.

In my kitchen

I have been experimenting with store-bought gluten-free puff pastry – making fruit tarts.
I also experimented with King Arthur Gluten-Free Bread Flour making soft rolls – they were amazing!

I also experimented with gluten-free tortellini soup – used this recipe:

In my garden

I pruned my Thanksgiving cactus, and now I have more than 16 rooted pieces.
This month, I’ll plant them in pots.

 Quote

Everyone is on a path … Life is a journey, and the end of it all is not just a place but also a condition. We are becoming the end of our journey, wise or foolish, and every moment takes us closer there.
~Ray Ortlund

A moment from my day

We attended the album release party for our friends. Beautiful worship music!
Find “Prone to Wander” wherever you stream music!

Closing Thoughts

It’s the first day of February — my birthday month! I’m excited!
