Connecting life, scripture, and poetry

our rightful mind

Beth Ferguson, June 3, 2009

I’m reminded again today … his yoke is easy, his burden is light … and in Him our soul will find its rest.  No matter the circumstance, his timing is perfect, his way is right …

Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
Forgive our fev’rish ways!
Reclothe us in our rightful mind;
In purer lives Thy service find,
In deeper rev’rence, praise.

Drop Thy still dews of quietness
Till all our strivings cease;
Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of Thy peace.

Breathe thru the heats of our desire
Thy coolness and Thy balm;
Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
Speak thru the earthquake, wind and fire,
O still small voice of calm.

~ John Greenleaf Whittier

This reminder, the intentional quiet, the reflection are part of the process … being transformed by the renewing of the mind …

Most High, Glorious God,
enlighten the darkness of our minds.
Give us a right faith, a firm hope and a perfect charity,
so that we may always and in all things act according to Your Holy Will.

~ St. Francis of Assisi

    Thank you for sharing this post…it is so true, and something I’ve been reflecting on this week. What a joyful thing, to be able to trust that God is working things together for our good, no matter what is happening in our lives.

    Hi Ann –

    I especially like the poet’s phrase – the reclothing in our rightful mind – God has such perfect taste in clothing!
