Love came down at Christmas

Christmas … the season of Love!
As I have been thinking about Christmas this week, I am reminded of a poem by Rossetti –

Love came down at Christmas,
Love all lovely, Love Divine;
Love was born at Christmas,
Star and Angels gave the sign.

Worship we the Godhead,
    Love Incarnate, Love Divine;
Worship we our Jesus:
    But wherewith for sacred sign?

Love shall be our token,
    Love be yours and love be mine,
Love to God and all men,
    Love for plea and gift and sign.

We know that God is love by his very nature and because of that, he demonstrates his love toward us. The most recognizable verse in the Bible says,

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son.
And this is why: by believing in him,
anyone can have a whole and lasting life.
He came to help, to put the world right again.
(John 3:16 – 17 The Msg)

Christmas time
Love came down
Love wrapped as a babe
Love born to save us all!

But just as Rossetti says in her poem, love shall be our token!  We love God because He first loved us.  We live out our lives in response to His love.  Because of His great love we act out love for others!

“By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

I thank God that He indeed is love! May I, you, we … be conduits of His love!
