God’s creation

Two squirrels are playing in the tree outside my window.  The creek is bubbling quietly.  There is that one loud bird – can’t see it – but I hear it every morning.  I enjoy our backyard and I’m finding peaceful moments there.

And then I read a post … that caught my attention.   The writer wrote these words: “Amidst all of this, I began to wonder: what if the mountains could see? What would they say about us? We are so taken by creation, and we describe the mountains and the ocean, even animals, with words such as “amazing,” “breathtaking,” or “incredible”; but we, we are God’s most prized creation. He takes delight in us.”

Langston Hughes poem, “My People” came to mind.   While some protest poetry is all about that one moment in time, these words are timeless – they resonate today.

The night is beautiful,
So the faces of my people.

The stars are beautiful,
So the eyes of my people.

Beautiful, also, is the sun.
Beautiful, also, are the souls of my people.

I hear in these words God’s reminder that while he is evident in creation … “for since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made ~ Romans 1:20,” we  see Him in his people as well.  We are his creation – created in His image!

… and everywere I go I see You, and everywhere I go I see You! May our hearts be drawn to worship the living God as He reveals himself in us … we who are knitted together by his hands!

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him,  the son of man that you care for him?  You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.   ~ Psalm 8:3 – 5
