Connecting life, scripture, and poetry

God manifest

Beth Ferguson, January 16, 2011

While in the midst of the adventure there is a calm assurance that God is my port of peace, there are times when I feel adrift.   Today I lean in to him … desiring to follow closely.

I read these words from a friend in facebook … “God is best understood through His manifest presence; otherwise, we depend on metaphor and simile.”

The scripture says in John 14, “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him andmanifest myself to him.”  I want to know God … I desire for him to manifest, to show, to reveal himself to me … today.

I don’t want to depend on past references to God, or past experiences with God.  Today I want to know Him …

–
“Now cometh all ye that been y-brought
In bonds full of busy bitterness,
Of earthly lusts abiding in your thought!
Here is the rest from all you business,
Here is the port of peace and restfulness
To them that stand in storms and disease,
Refuge overt to wretches in distress,
And all comfort from mischief and misease.”
