In Stillness the Dancing

Connecting life, scripture, and poetry

follows soft the sun

Beth Ferguson, May 1, 2009

We have Gerbera daisies on our deck this spring.  The flowers are bright yellow … they lift their smiling faces to the sun each day.

The daisy follows soft the sun,
And when his golden walk is done,
Sits shyly at his feet.
He, waking, finds the flower near.
“Wherefore, marauder, art thou here?”
“Because, sir, love is sweet!”

We are the flower, Thou the sun!
Forgive us, if as days decline,
We nearer steal to Thee, —
Enamoured of the parting west,
The peace, the flight, the amethyst,
Night’s possibility!
~ Emily Dickinson

I want to lift my face to the Son … train my life to follow his every move … to smile, rest while absorbing his strength … stealing nearer to him …

I’m reminded of the chorus …

Every move I make, I make in You
You make me move, Jesus
Every breath I take, I breathe in You

Every step I take, I take in You
You are my way, Jesus
Every breath I take, I breathe in You

Waves of mercy, waves of grace
Everywhere I look, I see your face
Your love has captured me
O my God, this love, how can it be?

May it be so …
