Connecting life, scripture, and poetry

holy freedom

Beth Ferguson, July 5, 2009

From every mountain side
Let Freedom ring.

~Samuel F. Smith, “America”

Tonight as we watched the bright colors burst in the night sky against the backdrop of triumphant music, I was reminded of the freedoms I have.  Our national freedoms are fragile … there is no guarantee that they will continue.

And then I’m reminded of the Freedom I have in Christ.  So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. … Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

This freedom … the freedom I find in Christ … it’s guaranteed … not fragile … purchased at great cost …

I say “yes” with the hymn writer of old … give me holy freedom!

Give us holy freedom,
Fill our hearts with love;
Draw us, holy Jesus,
To the realms above.

~ G. R. Pyrnne
